Welcome to J. Alane's Fine Lingerie!

Surveys tell us year after year that 4 of 5 women are wearing the wrong size bra and we aim to change this for you! Some of us wonder how this can be.  Aren’t there hundreds of boutiques across the country that fit a few thousands women a year? The truth is, there are fewer and fewer stores that can accurately fit you for a bra and large, nation-wide chain stores as well as big mall stores and local department stores are often not staffed with experienced, knowledgeable bra fit specialists to offer the best services possible.

Since your body changes over time it is important to be fitted with any major shift as well as annually to compensate for these changes: weight gain, weight loss, pregnancy, nursing, surgeries, age and hormonal effects. The beautiful part about a woman's body is that it is not a static statue, but an ever maturing and changing figure that must be outfitted correctly.

Another reason to be fitted often is because, over time, the material in your bra stretches and is no longer as supportive as when it was  first purchased.  Proper laundry practices (handwashing with a gentle solution like Forever New) will help to minimize this.

Our Bra Fit Specialists have been specially trained by some of the finest European lingerie manufacturers and will assist you in your fitting pursuits both in store and over the phone, helping you look and feel your very best, wherever you are in life.

Finding your Proper Bra Size
Lets begin by making sure we have the correct tools to get you measured. You will need: a soft tape measure, your best fitting bra (unpadded) and a notepad and pen to record your measurements as you go.  An extra set of hands to help with the measuring tape will make things a little easier, too.

To begin:  Wearing your best fitting bra, be sure your bra’s back band is at the same level as the clasp in the front.  Wrap the tape snugly around your chest, just under your breasts.  Write this number down; it is your chest or band size.  If you measured an odd number we want to round up to an even number.  ie: 31 > 32

Band Size ChartNext, stand with your elbows slightly out and wrap the tape across the fullest part of your breasts.  If you have a smaller bust, be very watchful to measure as accurately as you can.  Those half inches make a BIG difference in the fit and comfort of smaller cup sizes.  Write this number down; we will use it to determine your cup size.

If your bust size is less than 3 inches larger than your chest/band size, keep the fractions.  So, if for example your chest size is 31” and your bust is 33 ½”, round up the chest size to 32” and then subtract it from 33 ½” (since the difference of the two is less than 3 inches).  1 ½” difference is the result.  Now, use the table below to determine your cup size.

Cup size chart, use to find your cup size from your measurementsDepending on which fit and style of bra chosen, our example woman above could be a 32A or 32B.  Our fitting specialists can help you decide where you should start to get that perfect fit bra.  Since our chart suggests an A cup and a B cup, we would suggest, generally, to start off with the larger cup size to maximize comfort and prevent fit problems like pinching.  Keep in mind, this is just a starting point and it may take some conversation and advice to move you into your best fit.

Our bras come in UK/US band sizing and European cup sizing.  What does that mean?  The most significant aspect is that you won’t be a DD cup anymore, as the European system calls this an E cup.  European band sizing measures in centimeters (cm) and UK still reserves inches for measuring the chest and bust.
